I just put together a system with an A8N-SLI Premium motherboard and
I'm in the process of getting the various drivers and software
installed. I have Windows XP Pro installed on the machine.
The first issue I'm having is with an add-in audio card. I'd like to
use my M-Audio Revolution 5.1 pci audio card from my previous system.
I disabled the onboard audio in the BIOS and installed the M-Audio
card in the top PCI slot (nearest the PCI-e slots). The system ran
fine like this for several hours while I installed NVIDEA drivers,
video drivers, updated Windows, etc. I had no sound, of course,
without the M-Audio driver. I downloaded the latest M-Audio XP
driver, installed it, then upon booting windows I tried going into
the M-Audio settings and the system blue screened. Afterwards, as
soon as the system booted into Windows, it would immediately blue
screen. I tried the second PCI slot, same results. So I've pulled
the card out for now.
Did you accidentally install the Nvidia audio driver? That may be an issue.
The second issue is that after installing the NVIDIA drivers from
ASUS, I now have a removable hardware icon in my system tray that
lists my main system drive, an SATA Western Digital Raptor WD740GD.
This is expected behaviour. SATA drives are hot swappable.
