K8V-MX Memory Trouble

This ones got me stumped:

Sempron 2800+ @ 1.6GHz on K8V-MX rev 3.00 M/B
Lastest 2.07 beta BIOS (but did the same with v 2.04)
2 Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 DIMM's
No overclocking. 300w P/S.

Either DIMM works fine by itself in Slot 1. Install one DIMM in slot
2 or install both & system crashes right after POST. Memtest-86 shows
plenty of errors.

Could it be anything besides a defective motherboard or CPU ??

Can't see anywhere to adjust memory voltage in this AMI BIOS.

Any help welcome.
