I had an ASUS board(A7V600-X) that worked fine for about five months then
without any changes it had difficulty posting(no video). Contacted ASUS who
instructed me to isolate the board to make sure it was not grounding where
it shouldn't. I knew this wasn't the problem because I didn't change
anything on the board but I went ahead and isolated it with little nylon
washers. I should mention that before this I also changed video cards(needed
an upgrade), the power supply(didn't need an upgrade) and memory(didn't need
an upgrade) to try to fix the problem. I also cleared the BIOS and reflashed
it to try to fix the problem. The computer would post about 60% of the time.
What happened when I press the power button was that everything would spin
up(fans, hard drive, DVD-ROM). The hard drive LED would show some activity
and go out then nothing except a blinking cursor in the upper left hand
corner of the monitor. I also found that if I press the reset button at this
point everything would start up as normal every time. At this point I
figured I'd try another motherboard(MSI KT6 Delta-OEM). I put the new board
in with all the same components and haven't had any trouble since. All this
started October of last year. Since then I have posted and checked the
newsgroups for answers. It seems that ASUS(not sure about other
manufacturers) is having this trouble quite a bit lately with different
boards. Since ASUS has a three year warranty I am in the process of RMA-ing
the board. Don't know it this will help but I figure I'd let people know of
my experience with this problem. Greg T

Glad you got it up and running. The exercise of minimizing and doublestupid
checking is worth the effort - sometimes. At least you now know that you
didn't overlook something simple and that you really did do something
to that board..........(ducking and running....;-)of
I've fried a board or two in the past also - you have lot's of company,
