Have you tried uninstalling Asus Probe ?
Have a look through the stuff you've installed on the machine.
This thread doesn't have exactly the same symptoms, but you
might try looking to see if you have something called Asus
Enhanced Driver in Add/Remove. Maybe that has something to
do with Cool N' Quiet ?

Since you say you've run Prime95 and memtest, and yet
your problem occurs by selecting "Start" in Windows, that
suggests it isn't power. When you think about it, the
instant that you go from desktop idle, to touching the
"Start" menu item on the toolbar, that would cause
Cool N' Quiet to spool up the processor by moving through
higher and higher P-States (dynamic FID/VID changes). So
your problem could be related to any software that is
engaged when a P-State change is needed.
To test that theory, you could try disabling Cool N' Quiet
and see if the system is stable. (Look for a BIOS setting?)
If stability returns, look on the AMD site for the latest
CPU driver. Or something like that...
