Did you turn off "Automatically Restart" in System as GGS suggested?
(System Properties/Advanced/Startup and Recovery/Settings) If you
didn't do that, then it's possible that you're missing BSOD error
messages that might give you a clue.
Also, what are you seeing in the System log (Start/Run "eventvwr.msc"
and read the messages under System marked by the yellow exclamation
points and red X's)?
The problem certainly did sound hardware-related, but I'd have to
agree with you that your ability to run Linux without problems casts
doubt on that. It's just that it's difficult to imagine a software or
driver problem that would cause the system to reboot when idle. Hmmmm.
