Symantec didn't do anything to Drive Image, per se. Ghost 9 and Ghost
10 are Symantec's implementation of a lesser-known PowerQuest Product
called V2i Protector Desktop which was, in turn, a superset of Drive
Image. I've found Ghost 9 and Ghost 10 to be a little more useful
than Acronis Drive Image in that they allow me to specify how many
image sets (base and incrementals [version 10 will do differentials])
I want to keep before the program automatically overwrites the oldest
one. Drive Image, which I used from version 2 through 7, is a lesser
program because, while reliable, IIRC it couldn't back up the boot
drive in Windows and couldn't do incremental backups. Acronis TI 9 is
so buggy that Acronis should be the recipient of a class-action law
suit for releasing it SO prematurely.
I am most definitely not a fan of Symantec, but I think that Ghost 9
and 10 are good products that they've made better than the programs
they bought from PowerQuest.
Just an alternative opinion . . . .
By the way, regarding how inexpensive TI is, I got my copy of Ghost 10
for $9.99 with the product and upgrade MIRs.
