Just wanted to say I think I found the problem... power supply!
I was also having a problem with my KVM not being able to decide
which computer it wanted to set the console to at startup and
figured that could be a voltage problem. I happened to have a new PS
on the shelf so I installed it. That was yesterday afternoon, and
neither problem has occurred since.
Kind od irritates me, as the PS that apparently failed, or was in the
process
of failing, was an EnerMax put in service only 4 years ago. I thought
I was getting a premium unit and it turnes out to be only the
2nd PS to have failed me in 20 years of running PCs.
