You need to install single-sided modules into the last two slots.
The design of the soutbridge chipset steals some of the memory, but the
rest is down to an issue with Windows XP not liking more than 3 GB.
You could try XP 64-bit or, I have heard, Server 2003 does a pretty good
job. I'm trying that out tomorrow. (Better driver support with 2003
than XP 64 otherwise I would choose the latter.)
I've been through the same problem the last week - having to get a
server board with dual CPUs, but then I need 8GB of memory and possibly
a lot more.
