As you suggested,
SETUP>Advanced>Onboard Device Configuration>Silicon SATA
Controller>DISABLED
gets rid of the screen:
-----------------------------------------
SiI 3114 SATARaid Bios Version 5.1.39.
Copyright (C) 1997-2004 Silicon image, Inc.
-----------------------------------------
Now, when I turn on the computer (by pushing the power button), the
following sequence of events occurs:
(1) After about 5 seconds, a color splash screen (taking up the entire
monitor) appears:
----------------------------------
ASUS
motherboard
[picture of motherboard] A8N-SLI
DELUXE
Press DEL to enter SETUP
----------------------------------
Presumably at this time the POST is taking place. Question: Is there
some key I should press (other than DEL) to see the POST detail
screens? (If I press the DEL key, I am taken directly to the Phoenix -
Award BIOS CMOS Setup Utility.)
[On my 7-year-old DELL XPS R450, when I push the power button, a DELL
logo splash acreen appears; and if I then press DEL, another screen
appears, and I can see the memory test part of the POST taking place;
and after this the model numbers of the primary master, primary slave,
secondary master, and secondary slave drives appear.]
(2)After the color splash screen has appeared for about 5 seconds, the
terminal screen goes black, and if I very quickly press press the
PAUSE/BREAK key, the following screen appears:
--------------------------------
NVIDIA RAID IDE ROM BIOS 4.76
Copyright (C) 2004 NVIDIA Corp.
--------------------------------
(3)If I now press the space bar and then very quickly (maybe 1/100 of
a second later) press PAUSE/BREAK, I get the (first part of) the
following screen
----------------------------------------------------------------
Phoenix Technologies, LTD

ACPI Controller 9
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
------------------------------------------------------------------
And finally by by pressing the space bar, the rest of this screen
appears (since there are more than 25 lines).
Question: What am doing wrong? Why don?t I see:
-------------------------------------------------------------
"Phoenix - Award BIOS v6.00PG, An Energy Star Ally, Copyright
1984-2005, Phoenix Technologies, LTD
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe ACPI BIOS revision xxxx"
where xxxx is your current BIOS version
---------------------------------------------------------------
There surely must be an easy way to see the POST detail screens -
without having to press PAUSE/BREAK and then SPACE.
I have further questions about flashing the BIOS, but I want to make
sure my computer is working like everybody else?s first.
Any response will be much appreciated.
