I can boot from the CD and format the drive, but I get an error that

The machine is an HP Pavilion and it came with ME. There is an option
in the bios that says 95, or 98 or other.
Should I use "other"
Is there a hardware reason I can't install XP on the ME machine?
The bios actually says
win 95
win 98/win2000
other
I guess I should pick other to install XP? Huh?
I have a feeling this ain't gonna happen.
Have you updated to the BIOS that explicitly supports Windows XP?
I don't have a computer with a floppy drive.
The HP machine does have a floppy, but it is broken.
I currently have him searching his stuff for the original disk.
It would be nice if I could update the BIOS from a flash drive.
