I just tried to install XP on an HP ME machine

I can boot from the CD and format the drive, but I get an error that
xxx file is incompatible during the installation.

The machine is an HP Pavilion and it came with ME. There is an option
in the bios that says 95, or 98 or other.

Should I use "other"

Is there a hardware reason I can't install XP on the ME machine?
.
