I can't seem to find a newsgroup that covers HP printers, so has
anyone out there got a 2605 Colour Laserjet? Mine is three years old
and therefore not in warranty, but is used sparingly, so the three HP
colour cartridges are showing over 60% toner left. However, the red
one has been getting fainter over the past few months and now won't
work. I've tried the cleaning, taking out and shaking routines, but
it won't clear and HP diagnostics only cover the case where the
cartridge must be empty not to print. These things are pretty
expensive and I'm pissed off at having to replace one that's more than
half full. Has anyone got any hints and tips?

The printer has some mirrors that can collect dust causing magenta to fade.

I notice one of the people commenting to the article, mentioned
that his red color was gone completely, and that procedure
fixed it. Amazing.
attempt it myself, so I'll call HP tomorrow. I took all three colour
cartridges out to clean the plastic windows, and now the red and blue
cartridges are signalling only 11% full from the 71% they were showing
last night. Red still won't work and all three colour cartridges show
"Pages printed 537". Yellow still shows 71% full.
