Does anyone in this group have hands on experience with Mac emulators that run in Windows?
My daughter wants to run Apple's Final Cut software which only runs on OS X - 4.11 or 5.5. She could buy a used MacBook just to run Final Cut, but we are exploring the possibility of running it in an emulator on her current Compaq Presario laptop -
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 2.0 GHz
2 GB RAM
nVidia Geforce 7000M integrated video
I just started looking at info but I'm more concerned about how well these emulators run when using high end video editing software.
Also - does the AMD processor kill the idea? Looks like Leopard is configured for an Intel Core 2 Duo or better.
Do you know of a good OS-X emulator that runs in Vista?
Any info, advice, or links would be greatly appreciated.
You don't need an emulator. People have been hacking MacOSX and
running it directly on PC hardware. For example, this article
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10/20/macosx_on_a_pc/
mentions this site. I guess they're keeping some records
of what hardware could be made to work.
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.5.2
I've been finding descriptions of running MacOSX on
PC hardware, just while doing searches for other things.
I guess I never saw the charm in it. Going to all this
trouble might make sense if this was for a course of
some sort, where they insisted on FCP. But if you wanted
to edit video, I bet there are Windows tools that can
also get the job done. Someone in rec.video.desktop could
probably help you select something other than FCP, if you
didn't or couldn't get the MacOSX running.

Paul
