Hello
I have a MSI KM400 (KM4M-L) mainboard that currently has one 512mb
module cl2.5 (512MB, DDR, 333, CL2.5) - the other memory I want to put
in is 512mb 400 ddr cl3 184 pin ....
Is it likely to work?

Sure. The computer will likely continue to run at DDR333 speed,
when the new stick is added.
Faster memory can be run at a slower speed.
The BIOS looks at all the parameters, and selects the common
denominator. If it sees a DDR333 and a DDR400 stick, it chooses
to run them at DDR333. (If the BIOS also has "bus loading rules",
it can choose to run the bus even slower, if there are known
problems with a high bus loading. For example, with three double
sided sticks, it may automatically select DDR266 instead. And that
would be based on a loading rule, rather than individual speed
specs.)
The CAS will also be adjusted. Worst case, the BIOS would use
CAS3. Or it may choose to use CAS2.5. The thing is, the CAS
is roughly proportional to speed, so a CAS3 DDR400 (3*5ns = 15ns
CAS), is roughly the same as CAS2.5 DDR333 (2.5 * 6.0ns = 15ns).
So CAS2.5 should be possible, unless the automatic BIOS logic
decides otherwise.
You can verify the SPD table in each DIMM, using this tool.
There could be more than one column in the SPD table, and
that helps the BIOS to decide what common settings would work
with the sticks.
