Re: laptop cpu temp

Hello, I am in need of some input regarding a cpu temp. The unit in
question is a Toshiba Satellite A70. It has a P4 Prescott @ 3066mhz
with 1.5gb pc2700 ram. Toshiba specs. have the max cpu operating temp
at 95F,when running Everest 2.20 the cpu temp is displayed at 102F.
Both the fans are set to max cooling , the heatsink and fans have been
blown clean recently. I have also checked the bios for a health check
but there isn't one reported The pc runs great and I have had no
shutdowns, but the temp difference bugs me. Should I concerned? Is
this difference ok? Thanks in advance for any inputs.

The "Toshiba Spec" of 95F is more likely an environmental spec -- the temp of
the room you're working in.

Intel (http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SL9CA) shows a
thermal limit of 67.7C (153.8F) for the CPU.

The P4 is not a good CPU for a laptop, because it runs so hot (84W thermal
design power vs 25-35W for a current mobile C2D). Some mfgrs shoehorned them
in laptops in an attempt to create "desktop replacements."

BTW, if it's actually a Mobile P4M CPU, Intel
(http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/253028.pdf) sez it has a 70W TDP and
a 74C (165.2F) max operating temp. It also runs at only 1.6 GHz when on battery
power...
