Re: Hard Drive Failure?

Snip
Great info Paul.
Mmmmm. I looks like \Device\Harddisk1\D could refer to removable media!
Let me run this by you: I recently uninstalled a Creative MuVo
driver/software application using the uninstall link in the Creative
folder. It removed something, but left a number of remnants in Windows
Explorer and the registry. Checked Device Manager, Add/Remove, Deleted
the folders, scanned the registry. But I left the registry keys I found
due to the fact that they all refer to a device driver I am not familiar
with (CDDBUI.dll) and I have a policy of not deleting registry keys
unless I know what I'm doing. Could it be that the disk error I am
looking at here is actually these residual Creative keys pointing to a
now nonexistent portable media driver?

In a quick search, CDDBUI seems to be related to the function of
going to the Internet to download track names for music CDs. The
CDDB is a database of track names, so you can have proper titles on
a CD player type application. Presumably your Creative device
has something to do with music ?

Regarding CDDB:
The MuVo is Creative's version of an Ipod, so I think you are right on. The
thing is that many players do that same function (find CD track info) - WMP,
Real Player, Winamp, Nero, etc. And I got em all, so I'm nervous about
deleting those keys, even though the Creative Muvo is the only device listed
inside. I doubt that the CDDB function has anything to do with the disk
error, don't you?
