I'm tenatively shopping for a laptop, my first ever. I've always heard
that Intel cpus were heat-tougher than AMD. So should I maybe stick
with Intel in a lap top? Since there's no room for a big old cpu fan
in there (like on my desktop), I think heat tolerance might be
something to consider.
All AMD and Intel CPUs made in the past few years have built-in
protection against overheating, but other components are a lot more
vulnerable to heat damage than they are.
Laptops don't have big fans, but they do have heatpipes, which greatly
improve the effectiveness of the heatsinks. However those heatsinks
have lots of very closely spaced thin fins that can easily clog with
dust, so vacuuming the fins or blowing them out with air periodically
can help noticeably with the cooling.
