I definitely suggest working incrementally. For example, determining
how far two sticks will work, Then swap in the other two sticks, and
see how they work.

The QVL can tell you a lot about where the limitation is. There is
also a copy of the QVL in the user manual.

The same pattern emerges in both QVLs. At highest speed, only
two single-sided sticks work. As you drop down in speed,
a condition is reached, where four SS sticks work. With the
odd occurrence of four DS sticks working. And that is at DDR3-1333.

Note that it isn't a capacity issue as such - it has to do with
whether there are 8 chips soldered to a single side of the module,
or 16 chips with 8 chips soldered per side. DS modules have double
the address bus loading. (Try the 2N setting, a.k.a. 2T command rate
setting, for example.)

That means it'll take a bit of tweaking to reach DDR3-1333. The
conditions won't be quite the same as with two sticks, but starting
with two sticks and tuning, might be instructive (you'd run into
fewer outright failures using two sticks).

Articles like this cheat, by using only two single sided DIMMs, and
reach the higher speeds that way. You have to expect some kind of
limit when driving a heavier loading.

I guess my biggest problem in trying to incrementally test this, is
that i'm not really that up on what settings to change and what their
values are doing.. and what the safe limits on each should be..

I'm at the point where i'm thinking i should just take the 667mhz
value and stick with it, but it feels like a huge waste of potential,
though the benchmarks with that memory speed and 3.61 Overclocked, are
decent.. passmark rating of about 2250, though memory speed tests were
in the less than what they should be range obviously.. i forget
exactly, i think about 4000 in everest, where at 1233 it was more like
7000-8000 (on reads and writes).. I'm pretty sure my DDR2 1066 ram did
about the same if not better..

So to gain a few extra slots with my config i've spent $300 to get to
this level :(

And my CPU temps even with arctic cooler 7 are still about 48C idle,
56C max load.. slightly above where they should be (ambient temp of
about 80 at the altitude where i have the cpu sitting on the shelf)..

That qvl list doesnt really show 8GB combinations.. this brings me
back to my original question that i guess noone out there is running
8GB at that level perhaps (with this board or with OCZ ram maybe)..

I may continue to experiment.. but another deterrant is the fact that
when it bombs it freezes vista probably corrupting files.. so when i
test i will disable my data array and boot up only the C OS drive..
then run prime95 till she freezes (i cant get memtest to crash it yet
but the OS froze overnight at my 1233 test setting)..

Are you running the voltage for your ram at stock settings? With 8 gigs of
ram on that board, you should bump the voltage up a little.

Ill have to double check, but i think i have the ram set to 1.85 as of
now.. (i tweaked settings again, going to try prime95, wondering if
the freezing could actually be because the cpu temp gets too high and
not the ram).. i think the NB voltage is at 1.51 at this point.. these
are the two values i'm really not sure what to set them at..

Also.. speedfan reports temps about 5 degrees cooler than coretemp
does..
IE:  right now in bios i'm reading 49C for cpu (40C for motherboard)..

What could be the reason for a cpu installed incorrectly, ie:  not
sure what could be wrong, except for maybe amounts of arctic silver..
though against conventional wisdom, putting more than just a thin

I still cant get this to run stable, even at 800mhz ddr3 on this p5e3
deluxe:

IE: i run prime95, come back hours later only to find the usb is dead
on the machine.. keyboard off, screen frozen.. I'm still assuming this
is a stability issue with the ram on the machine, but i had the ram
set as low as 800mhz when this happens..

Would running prime95 with temps at about 64 max.. cause things to
fail just by being at that temp..

I'm about ready to get rid of this motherboard and ram combo
.
