The slowness is not surprising. After a new install of xp, from the time
the desktop showed to the time that all the icons were up and xp is ready
to be used took about 5 seconds.
I installed some business apps like oracle, etc. and that time shot up to 50
seconds.
Later, I uninstalled all of that but the time remained at 50 seconds.
Back when tech tv was worth watching, the recommended a re-install of xp
every 6 months.
