Can someone please help me..
I have been running my P4 XP (SP3) PC for years without a problem. On Saturday I installed some scenery for my Flight Simulator X and after than FSX wouldn't run. I uninstalled the software (Ultimate terrain Europe X) and still my FSX wouldn't run. I uninstalled FSX and decided to defrag my drive with disk keeper because my PC was running a little slow and since then it has ground to a halt!
It loads to the login window as normal but after that when I select my icon it takes about 5 mins to load my desktop and icons. Anything I open after that takes ages to load, but the funny thing is once I have opened it, say IE for example, I can open it again and it loads quickly, almost as if once it is cached it is ok.
I let XP run Check Disk, have run my Avast Virus Scan, Spybot, CCcleaner, Regedit and Registry Mechanic but it is still the same. I have run Msconfig and checked services running and my startup list but cannot see anything unusual. I have also done a system restore from a week ago when everything was fine but still very slow to load to the desktop.
Can anyone tell me where I can look to try and find what could be causing this?
Really appreciate any help guys!
Thanks
Go to the device manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI controller, Properties, Advanced Settings, and check that you hard disk is run in PIO (bad) or DMA (good) mode.
