Re: Adding more RAM?

Hello,

I have an older Athlon 2500+ computer that is showing 512K of RAM. There appears to be two large sticks of Corsair DDR ram but MyComputer/Properties is only showing 512K.

Is there a way to tell what kind of RAM and how much I actually have without pulling the sticks out? If I do have to pull them out to read the label, is there anything I should be careful of?

I would like to add more ram but I don't know what type to buy, etc. Does anyone have a suggestion about how I might work this out?

Thanks a lot,

Bob

Touch your hands to metal such as the case before you touch anything inside the computer so you won't cause static electricity damage. When you put them back make sure they are seated all the way in the slot and be careful to put the longer tongue part in the longer groove and the shorter one in the shorter groove so you don't damage the RAM. I once blew a motherboard by not seating the RAM firmly in the slots. Also make sure you hook them with the white clips that keep them seated firmly. There is a little semi-circle on the ram that these clips fit into and they will then snap the RAM in place. You have to see what kind of RAM your motherboard is rated for before you buy any new RAM. That should be in the manual and if you don't have the manual you can find it on the website of the board maker.
