I have a kinda mystery here on a neighbors machine. She has a line
running vertically down the center of her 17" LCD screen. It is
about 1/8" wide and has a band or two of blue, yellow and I think
green, but not sure about the colors.
Here's the kicker, it only shows up on the desktop and only when
using just a single color. If she is using a photo or any of the
Microsoft installed wallpaper, it doesn't show up. If you open any
program or window the line is not there, unless part of the desktop
in the center of the monitor is showing, then you can still see part
of the band.
I thought it was the graphics drivers, but wouldn't it show up in
all the windows? Why only a solid color desktop background?
I've checked Device Manager and Display properties and they all look
fine. I even messed around with the screen resolution and refresh
rate and that had no effect. The resolution is set for the native
resolution of the monitor.
This isn't a code red problem, just driving me a little nuts! Oh,
yeah, the OS is WinXP SP/2, fully patched as of Dec 2, '07. Any
ideas or suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks!
I have a friend whose Samsung started doing the same thing. Monitor was defective. You don't mention your brand though.
