Hi,
I recently upgraded my second hard drive (back up) in my Windows XP
(w/Service pack 2) to a 100 GB Maxtor drive. Boot drive is a 80 gb
Western
Digital. Ever since
then, when I boot up my computer, I get a pop up windows telling me I
have
new hardware to install "Found New Hardware". Then the "Found New
Hardware
Wizard" goes through this whole sequence of steps looking for and
wanting
to
install the hard drive. The Maxtor drive shows up in
all the right places as installed (and works great). Although in the
Device
Manager driver window it shows the Driver Provider, Date and Version
as
"unknown" and "not installed". My system has a FIC main motherboard
VI35L.
I
have changed a few things around on the BIOS like the "plug and play
OS"
settings, with no luck. Oh, and I did go through and use the Maxtor
MaxBlaster 4 software to install the hard drive - with no luck. I
have
checked on several tech support group boards, and even searched Maxtor
with
out any luck. Anyway, any thoughts or suggestions would be
appreciated.
Is
there a way to turn of that darn Found New Hardware Wizard? I have
heard
some comments about the possibilty that the FIC Mb and the Maxtor HD
might
conflict each other.

Thanks,
Dan

Is the Maxtor an external drive and if so did it come with a driver
disk?

The Maxtor is an internal 100 GB drive - DiamondMax 10 - Model 6L100PO -
Pata133. I did used the installing program Power Max with no good
results.
Before that I tried to install another older Maxtor drive with the same
results - 60 GB - DiamondMax 16 ATA / 133. LIke I said , had a 20 GB
Western
Digital installed before without any problems.

Thanks
Dan

Please post at bottom thanks. If no one has any better suggestions here
is
what I would try: In Device Manager remove the offending device, reboot
and
see if that fixes it. If that fails reinstall the mother board drivers.
Good Luck

Are the master/slave jumpers set right on the new drive?
