I'd more suspect the video-card itself; but if you went to a reputable
shop, then I'd take their word on it that it's the MB slot.
The cost of replacing each is about the same.
The method-of-testing is to try a replacement.
That's where having another *working* computer nearby comes in handy.
Most shops who would test your PC have such.
(They cannot get by without them.)
That's why I'd trust their diagnosis.

With the power disconnected,remove and reseat the video card. Make sure
it is fully inserted! If yo connect to the onboard grapgics, start windows
and open Device Manager and see if it shows two video adapters? If it does,
go into BIOS and either disable onboard , or set PCI-e as first display.
