Hi folks. I recently upgraded my computer and my new mobo has 2 nics.
If I plug both of them into my switch, will I get a speed bump or will
it not matter? I know it will not increase the internet speed but I
was wondering about the local speed. Mobo is Asus pk5 deluxe with
2GBit NICs. Thanks.
It depends on your MB and driver support. On my 680i NV board it will allow the two to work together on one IP and gives a slight increase in speed, but nothing drastic. You must use Nvidia's NTune to get the software support for it on my MB, you might have to go through your MB manual to see if you have the option. I found that the onboard nics on my MB, a Striker Extreme to be very unstable and I just disabled them and am using a GB PCI card and it does fine and at least stays online unlike the OB nics. I have had varying results with OB networking, with some working great and others being marginal.
