What Sleepy mentioned about going into the bios and making sure that the
first boot device is the CD-ROM is important so XP can be loaded in its
normal manner.
If after doing that you can't get the CD to start booting with the Home
version of XP you have an alternative option to download an image file from
MS that will let you make six floppies to boot off the CD.

Be sure that you choose the Home version file rather than the Professional
XP version.
I've used this method a few times when I had a computer that had a bios that
would not allow OS booting from a CD-ROM.
