Thank you very much for all your help! I covered the basis and found
the problem. Me. The powersupply I'm using is 24-pin ready and had
to have the optional 4 pin attachment dissconnected from the ATX
connector. I confused the dissconnected 4-pin module with the +12
volt plug. I change them around and all is well. I'm damn lucky the
Power Supply protected against over voltage and no damage was done.
Thanks again for all your help. Sorry it was such a simple problem.
Does it operate with just the 20 pin connected ? That would still
bother me, but as long as the board still operates with the 20 pin installed,
and the proper 2x2 ATX12V connected, then nothing can get damaged that
way with respect to the motherboard connectors.
Many power supplies will be OK with the 2x2 and the 20 pin output joined
together, because in fact there is only one output driving both
12V1 and 12V2. (There is no reliable way to determine how the power
supplies work internally. In the case of some of the supplies, the
outer dimensions of the supply sometimes hint at whether true
independent outputs exist. The more transformers they use, the
bigger it gets.)
I'm surprised there wasn't damage by connecting the 4 pin section from
the 20+4 connector, to the ATX12V 2x2 spot. I believe I've read of a
motherboard being damage that way, but I'd probably have a hard time
finding the thread again.
