Nope ... It's obviously a software or configuration problem.

Did you try downloading the latest AC97 drivers?
Is this one okay?
VIA AC97 audio driver package 6.80b
This seems to be the latest one. Will try this first later.

might try the AC97 drivers from Realtek
Looking on the net, the latest AC97 drivers from Realtek are version
A4.00

Not sure which would be best for your particular machine.
