Weird thing.. I keep getting pop up ads on my laptop even without explorer open. I have
run adaware and virus scans, but they keep popping up. What else can I do to stop pop
ups?

I too think that pop-ups can be cause by some hardware After I
installed a usb controller card I had tons of pop-ups. We disabled the
card and problem solved. Strange but true.
