I recently hooked up an external Memorex cdrw (52x32x52) to my laptop
-- which already has a cdrw/dvd player in it. The idea was to rip cd's
into iTunes faster via the external (not to do 2 at once). But it
draaaaags when ripping, something like 2x. I've seen lots of writing
about SCSI and IDE controllers and the like, but I have no idea what
it all means and how to fix it. Any ideas in lay terms would be super
helpful. Thanks.


USB1 or 2? Check in device manager or run Sandra.
