You should normally hear a short beep when you power the computer up,
this is the bios waking up, the bios then checks itself and if all is
ok proceeds to kick the cpu out of bed and then Windows and other
stuff is loaded into RAM.
If you are not hearing the beep, that means the bios is not POSTing
and nothing else will happen, have you heard this beep when it was
working ok before..?
For the computer not to beep I would suggest checking the CMOS
battery, that the graphic card is working ok and is seated properly,
sometimes removing a card and refitting it can solve these
problems,.
Same with the CPU but this is the very last thing that you do to avoid
any possible damage, If ever you remove the CPU for any reason always
clean and replace the heatsink compound on the heatsink surface.
You will get the beep with just a bare bones system, that is with just
the CPU, the RAM chips and the graphics - all the rest can be
disconnected inc. the hard drive. Once you get the bios posting then
you can connect the hard drive and then carry on from there.
Do note:
If you remove the CMOS battery that looks like a little flat silver
coin you will loose any settings that's been made and will revert to
it's default settings.
Power supplies can cause all kinds of problems and should be checked
by replacement.
