Re: Please Help - Intel D975XBX Conroe X6800

Ok guys update here

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried another different power supply still no good.

Next thing I tried a much lower spec Pentium D socket 775 CPU in the Mobo
and still nothing :-(

So I tried the memory, Graphics card and the Pentium D socket 775 CPU in
another mobo and they all worked (couldn't try the X6800 the mobo was not up
to spec).

It looks like the problem is the Mobo. Unless I'm very unlucky and both the
Mobo and X6800 CPU are shot.

I'm returning the mobo for exchange - see how we go.

Guys.

Can anyone here can help me please.

I am building a new High spec PC and cannot get it to boot.

The system starts and sits at a blank screen - No post, No Post
beep.

Here's the spec

Intel D975XDX Rev 304 Motherboard
Intel Conroe Core 2 Extreme X6800 CPU
Corsair TWIN2X 8500C5 DDR2, 2048MB CL5, Kit w/two 1GB Dimm's, E.P.P
Technology
Gainward GeForce 7950GX2 1GB,1.4ns GDDR3
,PCI-Express,"BP7950GX2-1000-TV-DD",HDCP
PSU - I have tried 2
Antec 550W
and
Hiper Modular PSU 580 true power ATX 2.2 compatible

I connect al the components and boot the PC. all fans start but
nothing
happens. no post, no beep nothing.

I have disconnected everything but the Graphics card, memory and
CPU
still
no good.

If I remove the memory altogether I get the memory failed beeps.

I have seen other PCs on the net with the same Mobo and Graphics
card
but
different memory.I have seen PCs on the net with the same Mobo and
memory
but different graphics card both specs working fine.

I have tried another lower spec CPU to see if it was the BIOS or
board
rev
but that didn't boot either.

The Nvidia 9750 chipset is on the Intel D975XDX supported list
The Nvidia Intel Conroe Core 2 Extreme X6800 CPU is on the Intel
D975XDX
supported list

Corsair memory is supported by the Intel D975XDX but probably not
Corsair
TWIN2X 8500C5. However there are a number of people on the net who
are
using
it on this board with the X6800 CPU.

The only anomaly at the moment is this motherboard comes with a 2x4
CPU
power connector instead of the usual 2x2 but Intel supply a 2x2 to
2x4
converter cable. I have tried a Pentium D processor of a much lower
spec
with the same lack of result.

Is there any difference between using a power supply with a 2x4
connector
and a power supply with a 2x2 and using a 2x2 to 2x4 converter? I
wouldn't
have thought so.

I know this is a pretty rare spec box at the mo but I hope someone
can
help.
I'm fed up with looking at a £2,000 paper weight :-(.

Thanks Guys

Regards
Terry

Huh?

To make the beep pattern, that means the CPU managed to execute
some of the BIOS code. So the processor is powered and the
processor is not completely dead,

<<<The system starts and sits at a blank screen - No post, No Post
beep.

in your "missing memory"
test.

test? I don't cee noe stinkn test

I would try the board with one stick of that RAM and see if
things change. And if it still won't work, find a small stick
of DDR2-533 and use that for testing.

Paul

Did you see the line where he said:

"If I remove the memory altogether I get the memory failed beeps."

The BIOS beep code means the processor is able to run, and is
probably getting stuck with that particular memory. That is why
I recommended trying just one stick of the original memory,
or find a small capacity (cheap) stick of DDR2-533 for testing.

Paul

sorry your right i saw the two references to NO beeps failed to see
the
'no memory' beep line
