I don't care about usenet. Usenet is for gurus. I do
care about these stinking chat rooms, that are run
for $$$$ by creeps who could care less what happens
to the kids. I do monitor and control what goes on
there, and I slam it shut if I don't like what I see.
In particular, home-builders are not very savy when
it comes to protecting their kids. These boxes we
are building are right in that catagory, and I am getting
to be an expert in this business of security in a
home environment. I think Mikes post is spot-on
to the needs of this group. An insecure computer
that exposes a child to insult and danger is just
as broke as a bad hard drive ... worse even.
Amature builders are always the first to try the
latest and greatest. That makes us the first to
see the good and the bad, and we know about it.
You would be amazed at what so-called experts
in the industry don't know about these systems.
Security is a great big hardware deal .. even in
setting up a simple home wireless router. I'm
taking a course in wireless networking at home
right now ( CNET ). All we talk about is security
.... and router firewalls .. 9 pages of posts from
all over the world in one day.
