Operating System Fails to load

I am trying to load the Operating System (XP Pro). The system gets about
half way through the install and then decides to suddenly shutdown. The
Hard disk I am using is a 40GB disk and is partitioned. I have tried
deleting the Partition, and have performed a slow Format. Then re-partioned
and have attempted to load winodws XP again but still no joy. Initially the
Hard Disk was taken from another PC with a different motherboard, and the
first time round I tried to complete a repair to Microsoft XP Professional.
The same thing happens if I try loading Linux Red Hat 9.

The motherboard is a IC7-G and is using a Pentium 4 478 CPU

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
