Re: XP license to 2nd computer legal?

Linux is a UNIX-like kernel built by a college student as a hobby,
onto which are bolted a bewildering variety of other open-source and
proprietary software components. It's a hodgepodge that is not
designed for the desktop and fits the desktop environment very poorly.

Linux users are roughly the same people who would have been rabid OS/2
Warp supporters a few years earlier. It's not that Linux is a good
substitute for Windows (it's not), it's just that they'll take
anything that isn't Microsoft. At least OS/2 was designed as a
desktop, though.

Were you born an *** or did you actually have to study?

His statement is true about Linux. It can never become popular
as Windows cause even though it's come a long ways, it still is no
where near as easy as Windows, or Mac for the first time computer
user. Not everyone has a job that requires them to know extensive
knowledge of systems, and how the OS works on it. The only reason I
know what I know is because I'm disabled, and have lots of free time
to do this. The average American only has enough time to learn how to
use antivirus programs, web browser, email, music, & movie player
software, & picture software. That takes enough time as it is.
Even teens don't know as much as we do. All of my nieces,
nephews, and their many friends only know web browsing, email, IM,
music & video playing, & picture editing. Most only know how to burn a
music CDR at most. When they tell me that their system no longer
connects to the web, the sound doesn't work anymore, or that their
video game no longer starts up, and I start asking them about drivers,
and such, they stare at me with a dumbass look, and shrug. These
aren't the "rear of the class" kids with their heads on their desk.
We're talking kids going to colledge for MD, PHD, and bussiness
degrees.
Linux is not for the majority. It only appeals to those who
have expanded knowledge of computers, and most don't have that, or the
time to learn it.

I must apologize for the a**hole remark but aside from that, I wish people
would take these posts in context.
In my initial foray into this mess (Wed, 31 May 2006 10:30:32 ), I neither
praised Windows nor Linux. I simply stated that there were alternatives
to Windows and you basically have confirmed many of the other statements I
made.
It just pisses me off when folks seem to be unable to read in context and
then get personal about things. Things like:

"Linux users are generally Windows users who hate Microsoft. They want
something that looks, walks, and talks like Windows, but doesn't carry
the Microsoft name."
That's one of the idiotic statements from an idiot and has
nothing whatsoever to do with the subject at hand.

There's a "Brightness" control, but it doesn't work.
