Re: pc home build help

First of all, the hard drive needs to be configured, if you look near
the DC connector, you'll see a row of links and this needs to be set
to Master, Cable Select, Slave or whatever... if you are just using a
single hard drive then it needs to be set for 'Master' by adjusting
the push on link, there should be a diagram on it telling you which
link to use..... then using the correct hard drive lead, usually
either 80 or 40 pin lead.

That sorted, the next is to configure the bios so that the 1st boot
device is the CD ROM the 2nd boot device being the Hard drive, from
here on it's all straight forward, insert the CD ROM with the Xp os
the reboot.

Note with just a single Hard disc this will be shown in bios as HDD0

Hopefully it will boot from the CD ROM and just follow the on-screen
instructions..... halfway through you'll come to a part where it says
" Your system will reboot in ### seconds", with a red line
that moves across, I like to take the CD out at this point to make
the machine ask you for the CD, because.....

with no CD in there will be no 1st boot as we have made the first boot
device the CD ROM (no CD to boot from), so what will happen now is
that it will boot from the Hard Disc drive - the 2nd boot device. (if
it doesn't don't worry, simply go into bios and make the Hard Drive
the 1st boot device), hopefully you can see why we need
to make the computer boot from the CD ROM and then the Hard
drive.

If we didn't do this you'll go round in circles as you will be still
booting from the CD all the time, when you get to the re-boot stage
you need to boot from the hard drive to continue with the final
installation stage.

During the installation you will need to follow the on-screen prompt
very carefully.

After this is all done, it's time to insert the mobo drivers, any
hardware... CD burner and programmes etc.
