I'm building a new PC and am having problems getting the OS to load.
I've managed to get the machine to POST but everytime I try to load the
OS (windows XP) It freezes right after I'm asked if I want to boot from
CD. I've tried two different CD's (32 bit and 64 bit), but the same
thing happens with both. I'm using an Asus A8N-SLI motherboard, AMD X2
3800 and a Geoforce 7300 GS graphics card. What is also weird is that
it seems that the bios is acting weird. It takes nearly 2 minutes to
enter the bios configuration screens or get through the POST procedures
and sometimes it will completely freeze in the process. It appears
that all my devices are recognized within the BIOS, so I'm at a lost as
to what's happeneing.
Could it be that my power supply isn't sufficient? I'm using a Sparkle
350 watt supply. I'm only using 1 graphics card (7300 GS), 1 HDD and 1
DVD-ROM.
Anyone seen anything like this? Any ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
It could be the PSU as people have suggested, but I have also seen
this problem because of quirks in the bios, where it freezes right
after displaying the message "updating DMI." Try changing the boot
order... eg., if it's CDROM/FDD/HDD now, change it to FDD/CDROM/HDD,
or vise-versa.
