Re: my Dell XP cannot detect my new Hitachi SATA Hard Drive:HELP

Check your motherboard manual and bios manual if it supports it.

Failing that... IBM/Hitachi has a tool available to adjust the size of the
harddisk.

I know it sounds weird but it reduces the space of the free so that it
appears as a smaller drive.

I would think a relative new system like your pentium 4 would support it..
but I am not too sure.

I hope you get it working dude (and without having to resize it because that
would sux big wouldn't it ;))

I actually bought a 120 gb drive for my old PIII because I knew the bios
wouldn't support bigger drivers.

So check bios/motherboard manual. If you Dell was sloppy enough not to
provide it check dell site or check the manufacturer's site of the
motherboard ?!

It helps to know what's inside your computer !!! Beep Beep over and out.

Bye,
Skybuck.

i own a dell Dim. 4600 pentium 4 proccessor CPU 2.40 Ghz, 800Hz.
bought a new harddrive: 250GB [Hitachi Deskstar T7K250] can be found
here:

http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/site/en/menuitem.f9b3189a2f2e122d92b86b31bac4f0a0/

when i boot up my computer after installing the new hard drive, i get
the following message :

diskette drive 0 seek faliure
SATA primary drive 0 not found
SATA secondary drive 0 not found
Primary drive 1 not found

i went to my disc management and see if i can format it, but it doesnt
appear at the bottom, just Disk 0: my original 40GB hard drive. i
was expecting a Disk1 as my new hard drive.....i have no clue why
it's not showing up. I'm guessing it's becuase the new hard drive is
a SATA, but...i do not know anything about SATA, except taht its
faster...so i dont kno where to go from here...

please help :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:
