Re: I cant troubleshoot this. pls help.

What I was inferring in my first post was to do a new install of XP on your
80 gb hdd. I realize it's time consuming, but the information you're
providing says IMHO that you have a program eating memory. If you've already
done this then I'm way off base, but you mentioned ...

90+cpu when run but when i press alt+tab to switch to task
manager
the usage drops to 10-20 suddenly.
c) task manager takes 100 cpu for 1 sec when i run it.

The other matter is power dropping out, which then leads to suggest a
hardware problem as others have speculated. That would say PS, especially
when the machine is cold. If you keep rebooting and the computer eventually
stays on then it most likely is a PS with bad caps.

thx for the replies..

1. memtest86 ---> tests 0 -9 no errors.
2. my both Hard disks passed the Seagate Disk Wizard self tests.

last night i tried rebooting the system..

1. Without the CD Writer ---> freeze at post..even before
Primary-slave disk
check

2. Without the 40 gb disk ---> it did start but power just went off
just after
win xp login screen ...i did had asus probe as startup
service(displays the
asus probe logo..then boom).

3. About CPU usage.
a) mostly system idle process takes 90-99 of cpu.so thats ok.
b) one thing thats weird is that even games like Age of empires
takes
90+cpu when run but when i press alt+tab to switch to task
manager
the usage drops to 10-20 suddenly.
c) task manager takes 100 cpu for 1 sec when i run it.

definetly not a virus or a program...im dead sure about it.

Jan my both disks can boot ....so ive tried booting form both its the
same problem in both the installations.
