For some reason my system changed and now the NIC stays on after the
computer is shut down. I want it to turn off. It used to turn off. The
only changes I have made are in the OS. I enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP in
the LAN's properties. That's it.
I have checked all the usual settings in XP:
The LAN Properties > Power Management > "Allow computer to turn off...."
is checked.
"Allow the device to take out of standby" is NOT Checked.
In the hardware properties > Advanced tab > the "Wake On Setting" is set
to "OS Controlled".
I have gone through the BIOS settings a couple of times looking for a
"Wake-on-LAN" setting and can't find one. I don't see any jumpers on the
boards schematics for the LAN, only for the USB ports.
Am I missing something? Or is this simply a software issue?
USB devices and see if that takes care of the problem.
Yesterday I found one computer's DVD and the NIC card LED's on after a
shutdown. They were staying on even after unplugging the power cord to the
computer. The problem was traced to an externally powered USB drive with a
bad isolation diode that was sending voltage to the computer and lighting
things up.
