My system appeared to be loaded down with virus/trojan/whoknowswhat. So
I tried running the virus removal software off www.eset.com. Now my
win2000 is thouroughly hosed. When I boot up it gets to starting
windows, then that little "loading personal settings" window pops up
for a few seconds followed by a similar "saving your settings" pop up
then folled by "loading personal settings" ( ...etc, over and over )
but my windows never loads. No task bar, none of the app icons .. not a
thing. Just a blank green ( my chosen background ) screen.

Has this happened to anyone else out there ? Anyone have any
suggestions on how to remedy this situation ? I do not have a rescue
disk ( none came with the machine when purchased ).

It's beginning to appear that an os re-install is eminent. Where I used
to be able to Wine certain products that I had installed, I now get
'file not found'. When I search the w2k hd, the exe files no longer
exist. Examples : sPatch.exe, Sol.exe, Agent.exe, Irfan.exe, etc..
Simple applications - no executables. I must assume that OS files
are also missing.

Rrrrrrrrrrrrr ..!

Many thanks to all respondents,
