My system appeared to be loaded down with
virus/trojan/whoknowswhat. So I tried running the virus removal
software off www.eset.com. Now my win2000 is thouroughly hosed.
When I boot up it gets to starting windows, then that little
"loading personal settings" window pops up for a few seconds
followed by a similar "saving your settings" pop up then folled by
"loading personal settings" ( ...etc, over and over ) but my
windows never loads. No task bar, none of the app icons .. not a
thing. Just a blank green ( my chosen background ) screen.
Has this happened to anyone else out there ? Anyone have any
suggestions on how to remedy this situation ? I do not have a
rescue disk ( none came with the machine when purchased ).

I've written to eset people and am waiting to hear back from them
( not sure at this point why ? ). I run Linux on another disk. I
can see my W2k drive from it. Not sure what to look for, but I did
notice that I could not find "explorer.exe". Also, from Linux I
used to play 'solitaire' via wine, but now wine says it cant find
it. I am imagining that files have been removed.

Can't you use one of the key finders I mentioned in another reply to you
through Linux?
