Snip, snip...
Anyway - finally a list of useful programs I've accumulated to deal with
this sort of thing, apart from your common or garden antivirus programs like
AVG of course.
Ztree - Dos style File and directory manager with built in text editor which
for dinosaurs like me who grew up with Dos in the 70s and 80s and still hate
the Windows way of doing things I simply can't manage without. I do most of
my file copying, deletion and editing with it. It times out after a 30 day
trial period but if you can't work out how to reset that then you probably
don't know enough about pcs to be killing viruses and trojans by yourself.
Registrar Registry Manager - for those stubborn registry entries that
Regedit can't cope with.
Use only with the *greatest* of care.
Unlocker.exe - file deletion tool
MBAM - Malwarebytes Anti Malware program including FileAssassin file
deletion tool.
This is probably the application most often recommended here.
CrapCleaner - gets rid of downloaded IE temp files, cookies and unwanted
registry entries. Works very fast and I rely on it daily to keep my HD
clean.
Although CCleaner is often recommended here, and I use it too, one must
resist the temptation of its registry cleaning function for fear of
deleting too much.
Autoruns.exe - lists every file and process running which helps you find the
one that's causing you grief.
Has been recently updated...
HijackThis - Not something I use myself but it seems to be the in thing if
you're needing to post a list of running processes in a forum for someone
else to try and help you.
Hello Dave:
You also will see SUPERAntiSpyware (SAS) recommended here frequently.
We enjoyed your success story. Thank you for taking the time post this
follow-up.
