They claim that carefully roasted, the fruit of the Pistacia terebinthus tree, which is much smaller than normal pistachios, could offer all the flavour of coffee, with none of the kick - as well as being significantly cheaper. It might seem an unlikely boast, as the special type of pistachio nut is from a tree better known as having sap which is a source of turpentine.,

He left the world of non-profit and higher education to share his love of coffee. Noble grew up in a house whose coffee came from the "big blue tin," but his first taste of real coffee was from some friends who brought back a Wonder Bread bag of fresh coffee from Jamaica. He has been hooked ever since. "Since the average coffee drinker drinks three to four cups a day, I would be happy to try and make those cups good ones," he told the audience. - It's great that Starbucks paid Ms. Sallard $75,000 (money never hurts), but what should also happen is the firing of the manager (or whomever was responsible) who terminated Elsa. He or she clearly doesn't know the first thing about running a store, or, more importantly, being a human being. I'm not the manager of a coffee shop, but I don't understand how someone with dwarfism could ever pose a danger to employees or customers -- or how a small step ladder could either. And if for some reason she or it did, you find a way to rectify the situation. Elsa was only there for three days. This obviously wasn't a "problem" that anyone tried to solve. The manager obviously sucked at their job. I hope the person who fired Elsa has long-since been terminated from Starbucks themselves. And I hope they remain unemployed for a very, very long time. - Ever wonder why a drop of coffee leaves a ring behind when it dries? Physicists did. In 1997, they came up with a theory of how it works. It turned out to be such a universal theory that it shows up in a number of problems related to deposition of material. Since then physicists have been trying to find a way to get around it and stop making rings. Now a group of University of Pennsylvania physicists have done it. So what is the coffee-ring effect? When a drop of coffee dries, its outer edges are pinned, so the radius does not change even as the amount of liquid shrinks. As the volume of the drop decreases from evaporation, the contact angle of the edge of the drop also decreases. This causes a radial capillary flow that carries coffee particles from the center of the drop to the edge, where they are deposited, forming a ring.,

- New research has found that in the route to building a better sunscreen, caffeine may be the key. Caffeine has been found to change the activity of a gene involved in the destruction of cells that have DNA damage and are therefore more likely to become cancerous. Allan Conney of the department of chemical biology at Rutgers University tested the idea by creating genetically modified (GM) mice whose ATR genes were deficient and exposing them to ultraviolet light until they developed skin cancer. After 19 weeks of UV exposure, he found that these mice developed 69% fewer tumors than those that had fully functioning ATR genes. In addition, tumors in the GM mice developed three weeks later than in standard mice.,

For one thing, it has a soothing aroma and may help us in our concentration. When you are looking to purchase a coffee machine, you are going to want to be able to compare it with other machines. Coffee machines feature many different functions. Some might be able to keep a large volume of coffee hot for hours. As Ness is a perfectionist by nature, Bench is the result of lots of planning, attention to detail, experience and hard work. It's undoubtedly a destination for all coffee lovers, as well as the perfect spot for the lucky ones working just east of the city. The space itself is beautiful and proof that grunge is not the only way to make a cafe feel warm and inviting. Bench has high ceilings, lots of natural light, polished concrete, locally crafted WA timber features, custom cups, simple nourishing and tasty food, as well as a very impressive coffee set up. - My K-Cups are a great way to brew custom coffees using the convenient Keurig brewing system; fill the My K-Cup with your ground coffee of choice, screw on the lid, and brew. However many have found that the coffee produced from My K-Cups is noticeably weaker than the same blend of coffee's disposable K-Cup. Instructables user gojimi found a great way to increase the strength by hacking a used disposable K-Cup. The difference appears to be that the pressure that forces water through the coffee is not as high with the My K-Cup as it is with disposable K-Cups. That is remedied by saving a disposable K-Cup, cutting off the foil top and removing the coffee grounds and paper filter inside, and trimming the top so the disposable K-Cup fits inside the My K-Cup housing. Placing this additional homemade filter inside the housing of the My K-Cup before adding the wire-mesh filter with coffee grounds will allow the water to soak in the grounds longer than usual before reaching your mug;,

But Like most good things, coffee also has a few drawbacks such as causing dehydration. -- I remembered that when I was very little, my mother used to tell my sisters and me not to drink coffee as it is very addictive. She was a very good example as she used to drink one jug in the morning during breakfast and one jug in the afternoon. Without it, she will feel very uneasy as she was unable to concentrate in her work. Therefore, I have never dare to touch coffee since young.,

- RSS Coffee Feed - Let's face it, the trend in Perth is that cafes are investing more seriously in something consumers (yes, that's you) have been demanding for years: better quality. Every time a coffee is returned because it's "just not right", a bad review is posted on-line or a full cup is left on the table, consumers unwittingly form part of the masses demanding a higher standard. As a result, Perth's most progressive cafes are today delivering a more quality-focused beverage. This means it's now easier to spot the difference between a "good" and "bad" coffee. This is a good thing, right? The part that seems to have totally blindsided consumers is the true cost of the increased quality, which is now being reflected in prices. I actually think the increase in quality has been so gradual that most consumers don't even realise how high the standard is now that they have become accustomed to it.,

The Safeway brand of Kona blend medium roast coffee didn't specify what percentage what made from the world-famous bean or whether it was grown in Hawaii - information a law in the Aloha state requires for labels on Hawaii-grown coffee. That law is meant to inform consumers, but also protect the integrity of Hawaii's premier coffee grown on slopes of volcanic rock. "It degrades the reputation and the quality of Kona coffee. When consumers are not informed it makes it harder for me to make a living," said Uster, who owns Mokulele Farms and is on the board of directors of the Kona Coffee Farmers Association. A sharp drop in smuggling Honduran beans to Guatemala also helped boost the estimate from the previous 3.8 million bags. The harvest ended in March, but officials are still receiving information about coffee that has been processed and stored but not yet sold. The current season ends Sept. 30,

The conjecture was prompted Wednesday when StarbucksGossip.com noted that several Starbucks customers were posting complaints about the plates. Blocking the outlets could free up space for patrons since some laptop-toting customers stay for hours, limiting seating and tabletops for others.,
