Bernie, if you respond to a troll, the troll wins. The trolls is fed by
any response, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in between. Your
only hope of having the trolls post less is to respond not at all
because any response feeds the trolls. To "just continue to point out
who is responsible and what it has cost" doesn't help you nor does it
help anyone else, I'm afraid. Sad, yes, but true nonetheless.
On topic: My coffee consumption for the day today so far: AM - a
double-shot of espresso from our Gaggia automated machine, using
inexpensive French Roast, 100% Arabica from the local Shop Rite grocery
store. 3 PM - the above, with the addition of ice, cream and a bit ofyour
maple syrup to make what my wife and I call, a la Starbucks' way of
naming things, an Iced Maple Latte.

You are right that responding is a bad idea. I think referencing
what they are doing without addressing them directly is appropriate. I
would further opine that if everyone desists from directly addressing
them or replying to them then it would be obsessive for me to even
bother to reference what they are doing. I'm not kidding myself by
thinking by my continuing to reference what they are doing I'm not
somehow perpetuating the problem in a minor manner since they view my
referencing their actions as an invitation to further comment. A
sticky wicket.
But I have yet to figure out a way to lay out the responsiblity
for what has happened to this once nice little backwater of coffee
expertise without at least a nuanced reference to who is responsible.
I'm up for suggestions. It's sort of analogous to living in a
neighborhood that has been trashed by a particular person or two and
then never wanting to point them out or talk about the shambles. There
is something about that which runs counter to my thinking. If everyone
in the neighborhood would ignore the miscreants and they went away
that would be great. If someone new moves in and asks "What happened?"
I think it appropriate to reference them in the third person and
explain.
As far as your Iced Maple Latte. If it makes you happy it's a good
thing. I've stopped my coffee for the day after a few caps on a LM GS.
We went out and bought a 40lb sack of fresh green chile at
Mr.Bustamante's farm and then took it down the road to Mr.Alvarez's
place to have it roasted. Mr.Alvarez takes the time to split the sack
up into two smaller batches and then he roasts it properly unlike the
grocery stores who just throw it in the roaster and turn up the flame.
If it's done correctly the skin will blister just right, but the meat
of the chile won't be dessicated and lose it's moisture from too much
heat. Mmmmm. Problem is that before we get it put up in the freezer
bags I've eaten three or four and my taste buds are warming up. So
coffee takes on a pretty bad taste after a few freshly roasted green
chiles.
