Thanks for the suggestion. There are no cracks. I have a double and a triple basket as well, and tried those with the same results.

I am guessing that my grind is too fine or too coarse, but I haven't changed any settings in more than a year.

check the portafilter basket for cracks, either at the very bottom
rim, or around the top rim. you might have to look very closely, and
maybe push around a bit. you're looking for a fine hairline crack.

if you don't see one, change the basket anyway. if that makes a
difference, then you've found the problem.
