Yea, the seal is really a 3 dimensional part that has to be molded. I keep
waiting for Casco Bay Molding to make the larger version. Surely there's
more of a calling for them than the small one. I could use a couple.

Rubber was always the material used even back in the day when cork seals
were more common elsewhere - this leads me to believe that cork is
probably not suitable somehow. For one thing the gaskets tend to be fairly
complex shapes that could not be easily made out of sheet goods.

I don't think anybody mentioned cutting a new gasket
out of a suitable gasket material. If it's just
compressed between two surfaces (no sliding contact),
you might substitute cork. Cork has excellent high-
temperature tolerance and resistance to compression set.
Hobby shops and car parts stores often carry sheets
of materials suitable for cutting gaskets.
