It does sound like your coil on the group solenoid blew up (shorted).
Remove the shroud around the group and you should be able to tell. The
coil usually ruptures or swells up when it pops like you describe. I'm
not sure how old your Junior is, but you should be able to read the
voltage designation on the side of the coil. It probably will be a
24volt coil. Let me know if you have trouble getting the valve, and
I'll help. I might even have on laying around....al

Hi,
This morning, while brewing an espresso, my Cimbali JR (pour over)
popped. Hard to explain the noise.. After which, there was a smell
like something plastic had burned.
Now, when I hit the brew switch, water pours directly out the
overflow pipe directly into the tray. It never comes out the PF. The
pump runs fine and water does make it straight into the drip tray.
There is normally a "clack" of a sound when the solenoid kicks in but
now it's silent.
Thus, my guess is the solenoid has blown and water is being blocked
and flows out the over flow pipe..
Does this sound right ?
If so, I'm looking at coffeeparts.com and they have several
solenoids listed. I haven't a clue as to which one is mine. Any
ideas ?
Thanks
