I've been purchasing my beans freshly roasted from a local roaster.
Blend is great and the quality consistent. Except that of the last
20#s, I've had two that contained decent sized stones. I've never had
a stone in any other whole bean coffee I've purchased in the last 20
years and the 10% stoneage I've seen so far seems high. Thoughts?
Thanks,

Dry processed beans, especially those from Ethiopia and Yemen, are often dried on cement patios then raked up, hulled, bagged and shipped. It's not unheard of to find a stone or small cement chard in coffee beans. It's quite a show when the sparks fly from the grinder! A cement chard does much less damage than a nail, screw or washer. The large scale roasting companies have destoners that help eliminate the stones from the beans but they are used after roasting when the beans have gotten much lighter than the stones.
