I assume 3.78 liters is 1 US gallon so maybe this is a good sign that they are getting ready to sell it in the US market rather than just an attempt at selling you less product for the same price. I looked at their website and the product applications (shellac thinning, brush cleaning, stove fuel) are filled in the US market by denatured alcohol which is mostly ethanol with just enough methanol or other non-potables added to make the stuff undrinkable. Dunno if there was some legal/historic reason for the cross border difference - alcohol is one area where the government has been messing with the market system for a long time - otherwise what you get in stores in Canada is usually pretty similar to what you get in the US, and with NAFTA, more and more similar all the time - increasingly I see stuff labeled English/French/Spanish so they can sell the exact same product in the whole NAFTA area.

Sorry to hear that, & to me that's just dumb.. I remember this conversation before Jack., & I emailed you or posted a pic a number of years ago.Lots of places to buy it here, but where I purchase it is at Canadian Tire in a recently slightly downsized container from 4 liters to 3.78 by Recochem Inc.
Cheers,
Craig.

Just about the only way you can get it is in little cans as one of the varieties of HEET (gas line antifreeze) - I forget which color label - one color HEET is isopropyl and the other is methanol - if you read the fine print it says which is which. However, it is pricey that way unless you buy the cans on clearance at the end of the winter.

Because of the vacuum process the grounds are pretty much vacuumed dry, even more so than in drip coffee and no brewed coffee stays behind. The syphon tube reaches more or less to the bottom of the glass.
Terminology seems to vary from place to place but my understanding that meths = methlylated spirit = denatured alcohol = ~90% ethanol (beverage alcohol) with some ingredient (such as methanol) added to render it unfit for drinking and free of beverage alcohol taxes. Other alcohols (isopropyl , straight methanol (aka wood naptha aka methyl hydrate) are either soot producing or do not burn as hot. In some countries blue dye is added to indicate that the product is not drinkable. Best of all is pure ethanol but this is pricey because it is subject to tax. Some people use it any way because they don't want to breathe methanol fumes and or worry about fuel spillage contaminating their food.
I've said this before, but the Methyl Hydrate up here in Canada anyway., & the stuff I use is 99.9% pure, leaves no soot, & burns hotter'n HELL... {;-D
Craig.
Forgot to say, the flame is all but invisable too.. Excellent stuff!
